Job Description

Beatrix is a vibrant neighborhood coffeehouse, restaurant, and community gathering place with multiple locations across Chicago, including the Loop, River North, Streeterville, Fulton Market, and Oak Brook. We are currently seeking energetic and detail-oriented AM and PM Prep Cooks to join our team at multiple Beatrix locations throughout Chicago. The Prep Cook role is essential to the smooth operation of our kitchens, dedicated to preparing ingredients and food items ready for service. This position requires the ability to follow precise recipes and special requests while maintaining the highest food safety and quality standards. Prep Cooks will be trained to effectively operate kitchen tools and equipment and maintain cleanliness and order within food prep areas.

The role is physically demanding, requiring the capacity to lift and move up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods in a fast-paced, often crowded kitchen environment. Clear communication and teamwork are vital, as Prep Cooks must coordinate with other kitchen staff and management to ensure timely production and delivery of menu items. Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepare food items and ingredients needed for menu items according to prescribed recipes and/or special requests
  • available to work a variety of hours, days and shifts, including weekends
  • safely and effectively use and operate all necessary tools and equipment, including knives
  • ability to effectively communicate in order to perform and follow job requirements in written and spoken direction
  • ability to multi-task calmly and effectively in a busy, stressful environment
  • work in a confined, crowded space of variable noise and temperature levels
  • able to move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, and occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds
  • ability to stand and walk for an entire shift and move safely through all areas of the restaurant, which may include stairs, uneven or slick surfaces
