The role of Allergy Mixing Technician at Texas ENT is a critical position within the allergy lab department. This full-time role centers on the preparation of allergy antigen vials that are customized for patients undergoing immunotherapy treatments. The technician will be responsible for accurately mixing patient-specific antigens and documenting each component meticulously within the lab’s database. They ensure proper labeling of vials with patient information, unique identification numbers, and clinic locations. In addition, they prepare laminated patient identification cards that include vital details such as the patient’s name, date of birth, unique vial identifier, and the ordering physician’s name.

The Allergy Mixing Technician collaborates closely with the Allergy Nurse to validate vial components, dosing information, and ensures the accuracy of all documentation related to the immunotherapy treatment process. They are also tasked with safely transporting allergy vials to various treatment sites and managing inventory controls, including weekly vial report generation and tracking refrigerator temperature logs to maintain optimal storage conditions.

This position works in a fast-paced mixing lab environment where attention to detail, dependability, and initiative are paramount. Individuals placed in this role should possess prior experience in medical assisting, pharmacy technician work, or similar fields where precision and adherence to protocols are essential. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-5 years of experience as a medical assistant, pharmacy technician, or similar role
  • ability to work in a fast-paced mixing lab environment
  • ability to sit and/or stand at a lab table for more than six hours per day

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-5 years of experience as a medical assistant, pharmacy technician, or similar role
  • certified pharmacy technician (CPhT) preferred
  • medical assistant certification (CMA, CCMA, NCMA, RMA) preferred
  • previous experience mixing antigens preferred

Job Duties

  • Review the allergy lab orders
  • mix the patient specific antigen(s) documenting each component in the mixing room database
  • assign the vial a unique identification number which begins with the medical record number followed by - 0X to designate the vial sequence
  • print out a label(s) for the vial(s) that have the patient's name, DOB, and unique identification number, clinic location and attach it to the vial
  • print out and laminate a patient identification card which includes the patient's name DOB, unique identification number and ordering physician
  • create a claim and enter the charges into ECW to bill for the vial(s)
  • enter the vial information into the immunization section of ECW including the unique vial number, number of doses, expiration date and doses instructions in the comments field along with the date and her initials
  • ensure the Allergy Nurse validates the vial components and the vial information and dosing information by adding her initials to the comments field
  • transport the vial(s) to the office where treatment will occur
  • deliver the patient's identification card with the first delivery and assure patient confirmation
  • pick up the vial(s) from the testing site and transport it to the ongoing treatment site if it is different and note that move in the mixing room database
  • run weekly reports on all vials and perform inventory at each location with each delivery including confirmation of remaining doses, expiration date and reviews refrigerator temperature logs
  • uphold the code of conduct and compliance policies
  • perform other duties as assigned
