Job Requirements

  • Possess a valid first or second-class medical certificate
  • Obtain a first-class medical certificate prior to appointment
  • Hold a current Commercial Pilot Certificate or Airline Transport Pilot rating
  • Meet minimum flight hour requirements including total flight time, pilot-in-command time, night flying, recent flight time, and instrument time
  • Provide official military flight experience documentation if applicable
  • Demonstrate specialized flight test experience for at least one year
  • Complete all required FAA training and certifications
  • Pass FAA flight checks demonstrating required flight test techniques

Job Qualifications

  • Valid first or second-class medical certificate
  • Commercial Pilot Certificate or Airline Transport Pilot rating with single-engine and multi-engine land and instrument ratings
  • Appropriate military flight ratings (if applicable)
  • Minimum 1,750 total flight hours including 1,150 pilot-in-command hours
  • At least 75 hours of night flying and 75 hours of instrument time
  • Specialized experience equivalent to federal grade FV-I, FG/GS-13
  • Completion of FAA initial flight test training courses
  • Ability to pass FAA flight proficiency checks

Job Duties

  • Conduct flight tests on experimental and developmental aircraft and components
  • Evaluate aircraft performance data and ensure compliance with FAA certification standards
  • Demonstrate proficiency in handling heavy multi-engine airplanes or helicopters
  • Maintain and document flight hours, including pilot-in-command and night flying time
  • Complete FAA-required flight check training and demonstrate flight test techniques
  • Review and analyze aircraft stability, controllability, and performance during test flights
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to verify airworthiness and flight safety
