Job Requirements
- U.S. citizen
- Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
- FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with Airplane and/or Helicopter instrument rating
- Minimum of 1500 flight hours (waivers available to 1000 hours under certain conditions)
- 250 Pilot-in-Command hours
- 75 Instrument flight hours
- 75 Night flight hours
- 100 flight hours in the last 12 months
- FAA Class 2 medical certification within the last 12 months
- Ability to work at any assigned duty location within the selected region
- Age under 40 at time of original appointment (with some waivers)
- Willingness to complete required CBP law enforcement training
- Willingness to travel as operational needs require
- Veterans must submit proof of eligibility
Job Qualifications
- One year of specialized professional aviation experience
- Experience flying as a Pilot-in-Command in all flight environments including night and poor weather
- Ability to make quick, judicious decisions during flight operations
- Experience developing operational strategies and coordinating with ground and aerial assets
- Proficiency using information systems for intelligence gathering
- FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with appropriate instrument and aircraft ratings
- Equivalent military pilot rating accepted
- Ability to meet age and citizenship requirements
- Physical and medical fitness per FAA Class 2 or military standards
- Experience with UAS flight hours considered an asset
Job Duties
- Conduct aviation-based law enforcement operations for detection, prevention, and interdiction of illegal activities
- Conduct air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit of smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels
- Monitor behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels involved in illegal activities
- Collect, refine, and analyze strategic and tactical intelligence
- Support search and rescue and humanitarian efforts
- Coordinate with other law enforcement and aviation units
- Maintain thorough flight logs and report operational incidents
