Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years
  • Maximum age limit of 40 for initial appointment with possible age waiver
  • Minimum of 1,500 flight hours with waivers allowed
  • 250 pilot-in-command hours
  • 75 instrument flight hours
  • 75 night flight hours
  • 100 flight hours within last 12 months
  • FAA Class 2 medical certificate within past 12 months
  • Successful completion of required CBP training
  • Willingness to travel for operational needs

Job Qualifications

  • One year of specialized professional aviation experience including duties as pilot-in-command or sole manipulator in an airplane or helicopter
  • FAA Commercial or ATP Pilot Certification with appropriate ratings
  • Experience flying in challenging conditions such as night, poor weather, low altitude, or high speed
  • Skilled in evaluating information rapidly and making decisions promptly
  • Ability to develop strategies and coordinate tactical operations
  • Use of aviation information systems and databases
  • Military rating equivalent considered
  • UAS flight hours creditable toward total flight time

Job Duties

  • Conducting air patrol, surveillance, and pursuit activities related to interdiction of smuggled contraband via land vehicles, aircraft, or vessels
  • Monitoring behavior patterns and activities of suspect persons, vehicles, or vessels believed to be engaged in illegal activities
  • Collecting, refining, and analyzing strategic and tactical intelligence
  • Supporting search and rescue and humanitarian efforts
  • Coordinating aircraft and ground assets during operations
  • Making rapid, judicious decisions during in-flight operations
  • Using information systems to conduct surveys, queries, and disseminate information
