Job Description
Eastern States Exposition (ESE) is a renowned not-for-profit corporation dedicated to promoting agriculture, education, industry, and family entertainment while preserving New England heritage. Located in the Northeast, ESE hosts one of the region's largest event venues, offering year-round opportunities to engage with diverse audiences through a variety of programs and events. Known for its flagship event, The Big E, as well as numerous agricultural competitions and exhibitions, Eastern States Exposition plays a pivotal role in supporting and elevating the agricultural community while delivering memorable experiences to visitors. The organization is committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring equal opportunity for employment across a diverse range of candidates, regardless of gender, race, religion, or other protected characteristics.
The Agriculture Programs & Events Assistant internship at Eastern States Exposition is an exciting summer opportunity for students and recent graduates who are passionate about agriculture, event management, and educational programming. This hands-on role provides comprehensive exposure to the planning and execution of large-scale agricultural events and public engagement initiatives. Interns will be actively involved in assisting with setting up, running, and breaking down key events such as the ESE Wine Competition, Hooplandia, ADGA National Show, Big E Cheese Competition, Northeast Sheep Show, and preparations for The Big E. The position offers invaluable experience in managing live events at one of the most dynamic venues in the Northeast, perfect for those eager to build practical skills in agricultural education, event coordination, and community interaction.
In this role, the Agriculture Programs & Events Assistant will support daily operations including exhibitor registration, event logistics, agricultural demonstrations, and youth engagement programs like 4-H and FFA activities. Responsibilities also include marketing support through social media and onsite promotions, administrative duties such as scheduling and inventory tracking, and contributing to the development of educational programming ideas. The assistant will work closely with a team, interacting with exhibitors, vendors, and guests to create a positive, welcoming atmosphere at each event. This position demands flexibility, a proactive attitude, and the ability to work outdoors and perform light physical tasks, including lifting up to 25 pounds.
The internship runs approximately from May 12 through August 14, offering a 40-hour workweek with flexible start and end dates to accommodate academic schedules. If schedules allow, the internship can extend through The Big E event. Compensation ranges from $16 to $18 per hour for this seasonal, FLSA non-exempt position. The ideal candidate will be a motivated, adaptable individual with strong communication skills, a sense of humor, and a genuine interest in agriculture and community engagement. Through this opportunity, interns will gain hands-on experience, build professional skills, and establish valuable connections with experts in agriculture, education, and event management, making this a prime launching pad for a career in these fields.
