Job Description
Wilmington Health is a prominent multi-specialty medical practice located in Wilmington, North Carolina, dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services to the community since 1971. With a rich history of over five decades, Wilmington Health serves not only Wilmington but also the broader Southeastern North Carolina area. The organization prides itself on its integrated approach to healthcare, combining the expertise of various medical specialists along with primary care providers to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care. Their focus on collaborative, evidence-based medicine underlines their commitment to delivering the best possible outcomes for their patients in a compassionate and professional environment.
As part of a system structured for patient-centered care, Wilmington Health continuously strives to use innovative practices and maintain a patient-first philosophy. This organization values a team approach where medical professionals work closely across disciplines to support patient health and wellness. Their dedication extends beyond ordinary medical care, focusing on preventive care, chronic disease management, and health education to empower patients in their healthcare journey.
The role available within Wilmington Health is that of a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). This position is vital to the smooth operation of the clinical area and the delivery of direct patient care. The CMA works under the supervision of Physicians, Advanced Clinical Providers, Registered Nurses, or department managers, providing essential support in both clinical and administrative capacities. Tasks range from preparing patients for examinations to administering injections and medications, assisting with minor procedures and emergencies, and maintaining accurate medical records via Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
In addition to clinical duties, the Certified Medical Assistant also undertakes front office responsibilities, such as acting as a receptionist, performing secretarial tasks, communicating with insurance companies, and coordinating prescriptions. This role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a dynamic healthcare environment. The CMA is also responsible for patient education, clarifying treatment plans and medication instructions to ensure patients understand their care requirements.
Wilmington Health emphasizes the importance of certification and training in this role, requiring the candidate to have an active CMA or RMA certification and BLS/CPR certification as a minimum. The ideal candidate will have completed an accredited Associates Degree program in Medical Assisting or an equivalent CMA program, with clinical experience considered a plus. The position demands physical stamina, as it involves standing, walking, sitting, and occasionally lifting equipment or supplies.
Working at Wilmington Health offers an opportunity to be part of a deeply rooted healthcare provider with a strong community focus and a commitment to quality and innovation. The Certified Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in upholding the organization’s standards by supporting the medical team, assisting patients, and ensuring clinical operations run smoothly. This position promises a rewarding career path for healthcare professionals dedicated to making a meaningful impact on patient health and community wellness.
