Located in Jackson, MS, the office provides a supportive and professional environment for its employees and offers a stable career path for those dedicated to public service. The Department of Justice is a federal government agency, and employment here offers comprehensive benefits and opportunities for professional growth. This position is a permanent, full-time role within the competitive service, set at GS-5 grade with promotion potential up to GS-7. The salary range for the position is $40,736 to $52,957 per year. The role is not eligible for remote work or telework options, and occasional travel may be required.
The Receptionist position at the U.S. Attorney's Office plays a critical role in supporting office operations by providing a variety of clerical and administrative duties that ensure the smooth running of the office. The receptionist is the first point of contact for visitors and telephone callers, setting a professional tone and ensuring efficient communication. The role involves receiving, reviewing, and distributing incoming mail and managing logs of packages. Additionally, the receptionist assists with preparing travel authorizations for employees, ordering office supplies using the government purchase card, and timely and accurate data entry of invoices. Financial management support responsibilities include maintaining payment files according to established policies and procedures.
This role offers a career ladder opportunity, where responsibilities increase and grow in complexity with the incumbent's experience and training. There is potential for non-competitive promotion to the GS-6 and ultimately GS-7 levels, subject to satisfactory performance, meeting legal and regulatory requirements, and availability of higher-level work. Being part of the federal government, the position requires a background investigation including fingerprinting, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. It also requires typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute with no more than three errors, reflecting the role’s administrative nature.
Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Nationals and meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
