Job Description
Harris County's Office of Management and Budget (OMB) functions as a pivotal governmental body dedicated to supporting the Commissioners Court in its mission to ensure the County's fiscal health, efficient resource allocation, transparent governance, and strategic achievement for the community it serves. As a critical arm of Harris County government, the OMB's scope spans budgeting, finance, management, performance enhancement, and risk management. Through these various capacities, OMB helps align financial and operational strategies with the priorities of Harris County residents and officials, managing public funds responsibly and fostering accountability. In addition, OMB actively contributes to disaster preparedness and workforce safety, reflecting its comprehensive approach to county service.
The role of Receptionist within the Office of Management and Budget is an essential frontline position designed to facilitate smooth communication and administrative operations. This full-time, in-person role operates Monday through Friday during regular business hours and reports to the Director of Operations in the Office of County Administration. The Receptionist is responsible for managing the front desk, answering calls, greeting and directing visitors, and providing general administrative support to both the OMB and the Office of County Administration teams. The position demands excellent interpersonal skills, strong organizational abilities, and a high level of professionalism, as the receptionist represents the face and voice of the office to both internal staff and public visitors.
Beyond greeting visitors and handling phone communications, the Receptionist manages conference room scheduling, monitors office supplies and kitchen stock, scans and time-stamps mail, and supports technology needs for meetings, ensuring seamless daily workflow. This role requires multitasking capabilities and attention to detail to maintain a clean and efficient front office environment. Candidates must be proficient in clerical skills, including typing at a speed of 40 words per minute with 85 percent accuracy, and must pass the HRT Clerical Skills Test with a minimum score of 90 percent prior to employment. Experience in administrative support for at least one year and a high school diploma or equivalent are mandatory. The ideal candidate demonstrates adaptability, excellent problem-solving capability, strong communication skills, and the ability to provide outstanding customer service in a fast-paced office setting.
Working within a professional office environment, the receptionist role involves sedentary tasks that occasionally require physical attention like lifting up to 10 pounds or managing filing cabinets. This position offers vital exposure to local government operations and an opportunity to contribute to the successful administration of Harris County's financial and management objectives. Employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package and the chance to be part of a respected public service organization dedicated to community well-being and accountability.
