Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate
  • Three years of progressively responsible, fully qualified secretarial work experience
  • Ability to type at least 50 words per minute (net)
  • Completion of an appropriate vocational training course such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for one year of required secretarial work experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of required secretarial work experience
  • Keyboarding certification dated within one year showing a speed of at least 50 words per minute (net)
  • Submission of a professional letter of interest
  • Submission of transcripts if using education to meet minimum qualifications
  • Submission of a list of at least two professional references with contact information
  • Legal right to work in the United States
  • Must comply with AJC rules regarding confidential information
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks calmly and accurately
  • Dependability and punctuality
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Background check clearance

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Work on routine and special projects requiring compilation and entry of information pertaining to the Council's work on selection and retention of judges
  • Maintain accurate and current information on the Council's web site
  • Work with other staff to manage and process attorneys' applications for judgeships and documents related to the evaluation of judges standing for retention
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for meetings of the Alaska Judicial Council
  • Copy, collate, file, scan, and distribute Council meeting materials, reports, articles, and other documents
  • Send information requests to attorneys, track returns, enter data, and query databases
  • Organize files, answer phones, screen callers, and respond to requests for information
  • Answer questions from the public and release standard information
