- making cakes from scratch
- decorating whole cakes including piping techniques
- producing icings for cakes
- making mousse using varied methods
- understanding and producing meringue
- understanding and implementing plated desserts
- excellent oral and written communication skills
- strong interpersonal skills
- ability to act effectively as a team member
- ability to interact with academic, business and regulatory personnel

- bachelor's degree in pastry, culinary arts, hospitality, business or related field preferred
- certified working pastry chef credential preferred

- five years' industry or business applied experience in pastry or culinary field preferred
- experience with online teaching or higher education instruction preferred
- experience working with diverse student backgrounds preferred
- ability to use diverse classroom technology and innovative instructional support systems preferred
Job Duties
- Deliver learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement
- adequately prepare all course materials and lessons
- provide each student with clear course expectations, evaluations and timelines
- provide interesting and relevant assignments that demonstrate learning outcomes in real-life settings
- suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students
- complete grade books, final grade sheets, learning assessments and final exam assessments
- ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus
- maintain a paper or electronic record of each student's progress
- facilitate meaningful learning of the course competencies
- promote student success with flexibility and passion
- design, administer and grade examinations
- complete end of semester responsibilities including submission of final grades and related materials
- consult with academic program chair or appropriate personnel on course and policy matters
- respond to requests from students and college personnel in a timely manner
