Job Description
The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is the largest community college district in the United States and one of the largest worldwide. Comprising nine colleges, it serves all or part of more than 40 cities across Southern California, covering an expansive service area of 882 square miles. Annually, LACCD provides education to approximately 225,000 students through 600 associate degree programs and 400 certificate of achievement programs encompassing general education, career-technical education, and transfer education. The District plays a critical role in contributing to the economic and social well-being of its students, the regional economy, and the greater Los Angeles community. For further details about the LACCD, prospective candidates and the public can visit the official website at www.laccd.edu.
LACCD is currently inviting applications for the role of Adjunct Professional Baking Instructor for the Academic School Year 2026. This adjunct position offers part-time employment and is a key role within the Culinary Arts Department that focuses on baking and patisserie. The purpose behind maintaining this pool of qualified applicants is to streamline the hiring process as openings become available at any of the nine colleges. The ideal candidate is expected to be dynamic, motivated, and capable of engaging and educating a diverse student population with enthusiasm and professionalism. Adjunct instructors will work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to foster a supportive learning environment.
The role involves teaching a broad range of courses within the baking discipline, promoting inclusive and engaging educational spaces that cater to diverse student backgrounds. Sensitivity and understanding towards students’ varied academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic experiences are crucial attributes for success in this role. LACCD stresses the importance of a candidate’s commitment to teaching and mentoring, as the district emphasizes diversity and inclusivity in its programs.
Applicants can express their preferred college locations during the application process, and they may be interviewed by Culinary Arts Department members at one or more campuses. Final part-time instructor assignments depend on factors such as enrollment, funding, and class availability.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or higher in any field plus two years of full-time related professional experience or an associate degree with six years of related full-time experience or its equivalent. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, effective communication skills, and qualities necessary for teaching adult learners in a community college setting, including leadership, emotional stability, and teamwork.
Desirable qualifications include certifications such as the American Culinary Federation Certified Working Pastry Chef or above, ServeSafe Manager’s Certification, and experience with large-scale production of baked goods, specialty cake production, chocolate tempering, and dough preparation. Experience in training and formal teaching within industry or higher education is preferred.
Compensation for adjunct instructors begins at $86.85 per standard hour, with an additional $20.31 per hour for office hours related to classroom assignments. Doctoral degree holders are eligible for a differential pay rate.
The application process is fully online and requires submission of a letter of interest, resume, professional references, transcripts, and verification of professional experience. LACCD enforces strict equal opportunity employment policies and requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption. The College District welcomes applications from candidates who exemplify diversity and encourages the participation of individuals from underrepresented groups.
