The role of Active Adults Assistant Coordinator within the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department provides a unique and meaningful opportunity for professionals interested in promoting active aging, wellness, and community connection among adults aged 50 and above. This part-time, non-exempt position offers a salary of $31,675 per year, working Monday through Friday for six hours each day. Reporting to the department, the position involves critical support in planning, coordinating, and delivering citywide programs designed to enhance health, social interaction, and lifelong learning for active adults.

As an Active Adults Assistant Coordinator, the selected candidate will be responsible for supporting a variety of engaging programs, including the Greater Greensboro Senior Games, 50+ Hiking Club, fitness classes across multiple recreation centers, and special events held at Smith and Trotter Active Adult Centers. This role combines program administration, facility oversight, and customer service to ensure enriching experiences for program participants.

Key responsibilities include acting as a liaison between staff, participants, and community partners to foster inclusive programming, overseeing the maintenance and operation of the indoor therapeutic pool at Smith Active Adult Center, including lifeguard scheduling, and coordinating the upkeep of fitness equipment at both active adult centers. Additionally, the assistant coordinator supports the internal and external users of the RecTrac registration system, assists with marketing and outreach efforts, manages record-keeping and data entry, and provides exceptional customer service to promote a welcoming and inclusive environment.

This position requires flexibility and hands-on involvement, including setting up and breaking down programs and supporting facilities by moving equipment such as tables and chairs. The role demands a dynamic professional with excellent organizational and communication skills, an ability to engage a diverse community population, and a strong passion for developing wellness and recreational programs tailored to the needs of active adults. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation management exercise and sport science or a related field
  • Certified Pool Operator CPO or ability to obtain within three months of hire
  • CPR AED First Aid Certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire
  • Valid driver's license
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Ability to walk up to four miles during weekly hikes

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in recreation management exercise and sport science or a related field

  • Experience using Microsoft Office

  • Experience using recreation management software such as RecTrac
  • Experience maintaining or working with fitness equipment
  • Knowledge of program planning evaluation and active adult programming trends

Job Duties

  • Coordinate maintenance and repair of fitness equipment at both active adult centers
  • Support internal and external users of the RecTrac registration system
  • Assist with marketing outreach record keeping and data entry
  • Provide excellent customer service and foster a welcoming inclusive environment for all participants
  • Assist with program setup breakdown and facility support including moving tables and chairs
