The Account Trainee position within Octagon focuses on event and volunteer management, specifically supporting the SAS Championship, a prestigious PGA TOUR Champions event held annually at Prestonwood Country Club. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in planning and executing large-scale event marketing programs. As an Account Trainee, you will assist the event staff with a variety of responsibilities, from recruiting and managing over 700 event volunteers to helping oversee key logistical elements during tournament week. The trainee will be expected to contribute actively to the operational success of the event, directly impacting the seamless execution of volunteer coordination, on-site services, and special event activations.

This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for sports, entertainment, and event management who desire to develop their career in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The position demands exceptional organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and a proactive mindset, alongside adaptability and a willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours during events. The position is hourly-based with minimum wage pay and is eligible for overtime, making it suitable for motivated candidates eager to gain valuable industry exposure and build a network within the experiential marketing and sports event sectors.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Passion for and expertise in sports, entertainment, gaming, music or celebrity and lifestyle culture
  • Polished communication skills both written and oral
  • Strong desire to work in a team setting
  • Confident ability to solve problems, demonstrate initiative and present a proactive work ethic
  • Extreme organization, multi-tasking ability and commitment to deadlines
  • Mature business sense and ability to work alongside clients daily
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Internet
  • Interest in sports and event management as a long-term career
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel domestically and work weekends or holidays as needed
  • Ability to respond effectively to event inquiries and coordinate large volunteer teams
  • Capacity to assist with special project implementations and partnership activities
  • Available to work during event weeks including setup and on-site volunteer management
  • This position pays minimum wage and is overtime-eligible

Job Duties

  • Recruit and manage 700+ event volunteers
  • Manage recruitment and coordination of volunteers as well as the online volunteer database for scheduling management and communication plans
  • Oversee Volunteer Headquarters setup including food and beverage services and volunteer transport during tournament week
  • Respond to general event inquiries such as dates, event schedule, ticket prices
  • Carry out assigned tasks with limited supervision including coordinating and implementing projects
  • Assist with implementation of special projects and partnership extensions in Cary
  • Contribute to the coordination and activation of key Tournament special events like Women’s Day, Food Truck Friday, 5K at the SAS Championship
  • Perform other related duties and projects as reasonably assigned
