Job Requirements

  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • Must meet citizenship requirements (see NATIONALGUARD.com for details)

Job Qualifications

  • Interest in cooking, home economics, health, mathematics, accounting and chemistry
  • Ability to follow Army recipes and food safety protocols
  • Good organizational and management skills
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
  • Basic knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Willingness to attend and complete Army training courses

Job Duties

  • Bake, fry, braise, boil, simmer, steam and sauté as prescribed by Army recipes
  • Operate, maintain and clean field kitchen equipment
  • Perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
  • Plan menus according to nutritional requirements and Army standards
  • Prepare and serve meals for Soldiers both in fixed facilities and in field environments
  • Ensure food safety and sanitation standards are met
  • Order and manage food supplies and inventory
