We are currently seeking to add a skilled and motivated individual to our leadership team for the position of 2nd Shift Batch Maker at our manufacturing facility in Hillside, NJ. This role is crucial in maintaining production quality and consistency, as it involves the preparation and manufacturing of bulk food products in accordance with daily production schedules. The Batch Maker’s responsibilities require a sharp focus on safety, precision, and adherence to good manufacturing practices (GMP), company safety regulations, and quality standards. This position operates on the 2nd shift, which runs Monday through Friday from 4 pm to 3 am, making it ideal for candidates who thrive in a dynamic shift environment.

The 2nd Shift Batch Maker’s duties include interpreting complex formulas to ensure accurate product specifications, monitoring and controlling manufacturing equipment, and consistently maintaining rigorous quality and safety protocols throughout the production process. The role demands exceptional attention to detail to ensure that all raw materials, temperatures, and mixing speeds are carefully regulated to produce superior food products. Additionally, the Batch Maker monitors product quality through routine sampling and testing, coordinates with the Quality Assurance team, and maintains meticulous records to document all production data. Another vital aspect of the role includes equipment upkeep, which ensures that machinery operates efficiently and any issues are promptly reported to supervisory and maintenance personnel.

Candidates for this position should possess a foundational understanding of manufacturing processes within a food facility, exhibit strong multitasking skills, and be capable of working independently with minimal supervision. Previous experience in fast-paced, ready-to-eat food manufacturing environments is an asset, emphasizing the need for adaptability and efficiency under pressure. Job Duties

  • Reads and interprets formulas to determine product specifications, processing information, and technical information
  • responsible for recording production and test data for each food product batch, to include ingredients, lot numbers, temperatures, mixing speeds, and test results
  • monitors and regulates gauges, recording instruments, flow meters, and thermometers to correctly adjust the addition of raw materials, mixing temperatures, mixing speeds, etc. to maintain the quality of the product and ensure safe and efficient operations
  • operates and tends machines to mix or blend a wide variety of food products including edible oils, dressings, margarines, spreads, shortenings, cooking cherries, vinegars, cooking wines for manufacture
  • patrols the work area to detect any leaks, equipment malfunctions, and operating conditions and reporting any deficiencies to the Production Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor
  • examines the product samples during production to evaluate necessary in-process testing requirements
  • takes samples of in-process products to provide to the Quality Assurance Laboratory for testing
  • uses testing equipment to test samples of products to ensure compliance with specifications and document results in logbooks and batch records, reporting deviations to the Quality Assurance Manager
  • modifies manufacturing directives with written authorization from the Quality Assurance Department by adjusting mixing time cycles and changes to ingredients
  • responsible for knowledge of transfer valves and pumps which transfer bulk products from manufacturing to run tanks
  • cleans and sanitizes all equipment necessary for the manufacture of food products
