Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in music education or related field
  • Proficiency in one or more instruments
  • Valid teaching license or willingness to pursue certification in Mississippi
  • Strong classroom management skills
  • Ability to create an inclusive and joyful learning environment

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in music education or a related field
  • Proficiency in one or more instruments and experience leading a band or ensemble
  • Valid teaching license or willingness to pursue certification in Mississippi
  • Ability to create a structured, joyful classroom environment where all scholars can thrive
  • Experience teaching music in a middle school, urban, or charter school setting
  • Knowledge of instrumental pedagogy and ensemble management
  • Ability to teach both general music and band
  • Experience coordinating school concerts, parades, or musical productions

Job Duties

  • Teach general music and band classes that build foundational music theory, technique, and appreciation
  • Lead the school’s band program, including rehearsals, performances, and special events
  • Develop scholars' musical literacy and instrumental skills through engaging, standards-aligned instruction
  • Cultivate a classroom and rehearsal space grounded in love, high expectations, and mutual respect
  • Celebrate student voice, identity, and culture through diverse musical selections and performance opportunities
  • Foster confidence and teamwork among scholars as they prepare for concerts, competitions, and showcases
  • Partner with colleagues to integrate music into cross-curricular learning and school culture
  • Participate in weekly professional development and coaching to deepen instructional expertise
  • Provide differentiated instruction to support all learners, including scholars with IEPs and English Learners
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, performance events, and classroom expectations
  • Organize performances that showcase student talent and build school pride, including seasonal concerts and community events
  • Build relationships with local musicians, arts organizations, and community partners to enhance program opportunities
