The Gourmet Chef position is a crucial culinary role within our organization, focused on the preparation, display, and merchandising of freshly prepared and packaged bistro foods for sale. As a Gourmet Chef, you will not only be responsible for crafting exquisite dishes but also for contributing to the overall presentation and appeal of our food offerings. In addition to day-to-day food preparation, this role involves close collaboration with the deli/bistro team lead, executive chef, catering director, and other kitchen staff to ensure that all goals related to sales, product quality, and customer service are consistently met.
Your role will include planning and developing various menus, engaging with customers to provide information and suggestions, handling special orders via phone, and participating actively in sampling presentations. You will also facilitate catering events from inception to completion, working closely with the catering team to design and execute profitable and high-quality menus. Key responsibilities include maintaining compliance with local and state health and safety regulations, food cost control, and continual communication with key team members to ensure seamless operations. Job Requirements
- must be 18 years of age
- must be 21 years of age for positions that serve alcohol
- ability to stand for extended periods
- capability to lift and stock up to 50 lbs
- experience with telephone use and keyboarding
- willingness to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment
- must be able to maintain compliance with health and safety regulations
- rehires must be approved by HR
- internal transfer candidates require leader recommendation
Job Qualifications
- high school diploma or equivalent
- prior experience in a culinary or food preparation role preferred
- strong creativity and passion for cooking
- excellent communication and customer service skills
- ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- experience in menu planning and catering services is an asset
- knowledge of food safety regulations
- ability to work collaboratively with team members
- attentive and friendly demeanor
Job Duties
- working with the deli/bistro team lead and/or executive chef to achieve sales, product quality, presentation and customer service goals
- planning, developing and presenting various menus with creativity and expertise
- answering phones and taking special orders
- maintaining a positive and friendly attitude towards customers and team members
- engaging with customers through smiles, greetings, product information, selling suggestions and active sampling
- facilitating catered events from beginning to conclusion
- working with catering director and executive chef on menu planning and production
- demonstrating excellent communication and salesmanship skills with clients and vendors
- maintaining open communication with deli/bistro and catering departments
- ensuring compliance with health department and weights and measures policies
- controlling food cost by monitoring production and implementing reworks
- performing all other related duties as assigned
