The Asst. Deli Team Lead role is designed as a leadership development position for individuals aspiring to grow into full Team Lead responsibilities within the Deli/Bistro department. This position serves a critical function by supporting the department's daily operations and ensuring the delivery of exceptional food products and customer service. The Asst. Deli Team Lead is entrusted with managing the team efficiently during the Deli/Bistro Team Leader's absence, including overseeing staff, meeting department goals, managing inventory and merchandising, and maintaining compliance with all food safety and sanitation standards. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment while being detail-oriented and safety conscious, adept at handling various deli items such as freshly prepared entrees, fried foods, roasted chickens, pizzas, salads, and sandwiches.
In addition to leadership duties, the Asst. Deli Team Lead will be actively engaged in customer interaction by taking orders and ensuring customer satisfaction, contributing to a friendly and professional atmosphere. The position requires careful attention to merchandising practices, stock rotation, inventory control, and quality assurance to minimize shrink and guarantee product freshness and safety. This includes receiving and auditing deliveries, maintaining clean and organized work and sales areas, and operating safely around deli equipment. Candidates must be at least 18 years old (21 for roles involving alcohol service) and willing to work physically demanding tasks such as lifting, standing, and bending. Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be 21 years of age for any position that serves alcohol
- Must be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, and walk for extended periods
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Willingness to work flexible hours
- Ability to work safely around sharp and hot deli equipment
- Must have current leader endorsement if transferring internally
- Must be approved by HR for rehire candidates
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience in a retail or food service environment
- Leadership or supervisory experience beneficial
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices

- Basic math and inventory management skills
Job Duties
- Directing department personnel in the absence of the team leader
- Meeting department goals and objectives
- Communicating with store director and deli/bistro supervisors
- Ordering products and supplies to maintain stock levels
- Overseeing preparation, serving, and merchandising of deli/bistro food items
- Displaying deli/bistro merchandise following company guidelines
- Rotating deli/bistro items to ensure quality and safety
- Meeting all food safety and sanitation guidelines
- Receiving merchandise, auditing invoices, and organizing stock
- Monitoring product pricing, signage, and placement
- Keeping sales counters, prep areas, and storage neat and orderly
- Working safely around deli equipment
- Taking customer orders and ensuring satisfaction
- Performing all other related duties as assigned
