The Pastry Chef role at AJ's is integral to the continued success and innovation of the bakery and prepared foods department. This position combines culinary expertise with operational responsibilities to ensure the production of high-quality pastries that meet AJ's exclusive standards. The Pastry Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef and Catering Director to enhance menu offerings through creative experimentation with new recipes and trends, ensuring the bakery remains competitive and appealing to patrons. Additionally, this role involves meticulous attention to food safety, sanitation, inventory control, and merchandising practices to uphold health department regulations and company policies. Candidates must possess a keen eye for detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. This full-time position requires collaboration across departments to meet sales targets, control costs, and maintain exceptional cleanliness and safety standards within the kitchen and merchandising areas. Employees will also be responsible for cash handling when operating the register and providing excellent customer service to enrich the AJ's customer experience. Job Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Must have prior experience in pastry or bakery production
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and stock up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to operate a cash register and handle tender properly
  • Compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management

Job Duties

  • Responsible for production, ordering, merchandising, achieving goals on sales and profits, controlling inventory and out of stocks, sanitation, shrink, supplies, equipment, and safety
  • Assist with menu planning and development including creativity and experimentation with new trends and menu ideas and recipes to create AJ's exclusive pastries and expand the offerings in our Boulangeries
  • Ensure compliance with health department and weights and measures requirements
  • Maintain open communication with all members of the kitchen and department manager
  • Work with the Catering Director and Executive Chef on menu planning and facilitating the production of catering menus to ensure profitability, variety and AJ's quality standards
  • Maintain a high degree of cleanliness throughout preparation area
  • Must be able to correctly operate a cash register including proper cash handling and all forms of tender per company policy, e.g., cash, checks, credit cards ATM
  • All other related duties as assigned
