Job Description
Ohio County Schools, located in West Virginia, is a public school system committed to providing quality education and supportive services to its students. The district places a strong emphasis on creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for all students, fostering academic success, personal growth, and community involvement. Within this framework, the Child Nutrition Program plays a vital role in supporting students’ health and well-being by offering nutritious meals throughout the school day. The program is carefully structured to meet federal, state, and local guidelines, ensuring that children receive meals that contribute to their daily nutritional needs in a safe and welcoming environment.
The position of Cook III/Server at Triadelphia Middle School is an essential role within the Child Nutrition Program. This part-time, seasonal role specifically supports the At Risk Supper Cook program, designed to provide meals to students during extended learning or after-school activities. The position operates Monday through Friday from 2:15 pm to 3:45 pm, following the schedule of the TMS supper program, which is subject to change as directed by the school principal. Employment is for the 2025-2026 school year, with the start date aligned with the program’s beginning in late August and concluding at the discretion of school administration.
This job offers employment under the Ohio County Schools Salary Schedule, providing a competitive wage consistent with public school standards. Interested applicants must apply online, demonstrating their qualifications and suitability. The Cook III/Server reports directly to the Administrator for Child Nutrition and the Cafeteria Manager, ensuring adherence to program goals and operational standards.
The primary goal for the Cook III/Server is to prepare and serve students attractive, nutritious meals efficiently and with a strong focus on cleanliness and friendly service. The role involves operating the Point of Sale (POS) and PrimeroEdge systems after training, assisting in food preparation based on menu plans, and maintaining safety and sanitary standards within the kitchen and cafeteria. Candidates must have the physical ability to handle a medium-heavy workload, including lifting food containers and working in various temperature environments such as freezers and near hot cooking equipment.
This position demands a candidate who is experienced in quantity food production, possesses a valid Food Handler’s Card issued by the Ohio County Health Department, and can follow both written and oral instructions effectively. Additionally, passing the approved West Virginia Service Personnel Tests for School Cook is required unless already classified. A clear background check and excellent attendance history are essential to qualify. The ability to relate well with students and colleagues is also critical in maintaining a positive atmosphere throughout the school nutrition program.
Overall, joining Ohio County Schools in this role means contributing directly to students' health and academic success by ensuring they receive proper nourishment in a supportive environment. The Cook III/Server becomes an important member of the school community by helping build an efficient food service operation that emphasizes safety, quality, and a genuine care for the children served. This career opportunity is ideal for individuals who value teamwork, safety, and making a difference in a school setting while working within a stable public school employment system.
