The Pastry Chef position at AJ's is an exciting opportunity designed for a skilled culinary professional with a passion for baking and pastry arts. This role involves assisting in the operation of the prepared foods department by working closely with the Executive Chef to achieve sales and customer service goals for the bakery section. The Pastry Chef is responsible for producing high-quality pastries, maintaining food safety and sanitation standards, and contributing creatively to menu planning and new product development. This role demands a keen eye for detail, the ability to work both independently and within a team, and a dedication to maintaining the bakery's reputation for exclusivity and excellence. The Pastry Chef will also handle important operational tasks such as inventory control, ordering supplies, merchandising, and ensuring overall cleanliness and organization of the work area. Moreover, the role includes collaborating with the Catering Director and Executive Chef around catering menu facilitation to uphold quality, variety, and profitability. Job Requirements
- must be at least 18 years of age
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- prior experience in a bakery or prepared foods environment
- ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs
- capable of operating cash register and handling cash accurately
- excellent interpersonal skills and customer service orientation
- able to comply with health and safety regulations
Job Qualifications
- proven experience as a pastry chef or similar role
- knowledge of baking methods and techniques
- understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
- creativity in menu planning and recipe development
- strong organizational and communication skills
- ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- basic math skills for inventory and cash handling
Job Duties
- responsible for production, ordering, merchandising, achieving goals on sales and profits, controlling inventory and out of stocks, sanitation, shrink, supplies, equipment, and safety
- assist with menu planning and development including creativity and experimentation with new trends and menu ideas and recipes to create AJ's exclusive pastries and expand the offerings in our Boulangeries
- ensure compliance with health department and weights and measures requirements
- maintain open communication with all members of the kitchen and department manager
- work with the Catering Director and Executive Chef on menu planning and facilitating the production of catering menus to ensure profitability, variety and AJ's quality standards
- maintain a high degree of cleanliness throughout preparation area
- must be able to correctly operate a cash register including proper cash handling and all forms of tender per company policy, e.g., cash, checks, credit cards ATM
- all other related duties as assigned
