The role of Barista at this café is a vital position responsible for independently managing the majority of shift activities with minimal supervision. The Barista prepares a variety of coffee and specialty drinks, operates kitchen and café machinery such as blenders, ovens, and espresso machines, and ensures that the café environment remains clean, organized, and inviting throughout the day. The Barista is also responsible for merchandising products, handling cash transactions accurately, and actively promoting all point-of-sale initiatives and company programs including discount cards and donation drives. Exceptional interpersonal skills, self-management, and the ability to multi-task are core competencies expected from candidates. The role requires attentiveness to detail in maintaining cleanliness and adhering to safety processes. The Barista is expected to balance the cash drawer within specified limits to align with loss prevention policies and contribute effort to support bookstore operations as needed. Job Requirements
- 16 years of age or older
- Successful completion of all required background screenings
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
- Must be able to use hands/arms to operate keyboard and telephone for repetitive motion activities
- Must be able to lift or team lift objects up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
- Must be able to communicate using speech, sight, and sound with or without assistive devices
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, or crouch while performing daily activities
Job Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Ability to learn and operate café machines including blenders, ovens, espresso machines
- Computer and cash register skills
Job Duties
- Operate café equipment and prepare coffee, specialty drinks, bottled drinks, and baked and prepared goods
- Maintain clean environment following local, state, and federal sanitation guidelines
- Complete daily and weekly cleaning of food surfaces, machinery, utensils, and customer areas
- Stock and merchandise café according to company policies and procedures
- Greet customers and provide exceptional customer service on each transaction
- Promote POS initiatives and company programs including discount cards, magazine sales, pre-sale vouchers, and donation programs
- Balance cash drawer following each shift within allowable variances
- Assist the bookstore as needed
- Perform other tasks as needed
