OysterLink’s Demographics and Statistics Methodology
Published: 8/15/2024
When collecting statistics and demographics for our pages, we start with data from publicly available sources such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the United States Census Bureau (USCB) and state-specific government sites.
For positions that are not available on BLS or USCB, we refer to various other sources, such as Glassdoor, Indeed, Salary.com, ZipRecruiter and Talent.com.
We then calculate the average of these inputs to produce the most accurate data and statistics for that position.
Where Do We Get the Data From:
- Government-published sources of statistics – may include BLS, USCB, city and state-specific sources such as dol.ny.gov, dir.ca.gov, etc.
- By monitoring demographics and statistics that companies such as Glassdoor, Indeed, Salary.com, ZipRecruiter and Talent.com publish online.
Frequently Asked Questions
Both employees and employers can use this data to their advantage.
- Employees: If you’re an employee, you can use our statistics pages to view the demographics for your role or position. You can then use this data to find a better job, determine whether you should relocate or even change roles within the hospitality industry.
- Employers: If you’re an employer, you can benefit from demographics when hiring new employees or promoting existing ones. Demographics are extremely valuable since they tell you all kinds of information about your community — if it’s growing, shrinking, etc.
We at OysterLink pride ourselves on transparency. We are open about our sources and methods and we encourage anyone to use our data however they see fit.
