Founded in 1952 by Nick Tocco and Mike Piccinini, the first Save Mart Supermarket was established in Modesto, situated in the heart of California's fertile Central Valley. In 2007, The Save Mart Companies expanded its footprint by acquiring 128 stores in Northern California and Western Nevada, reintroducing the storied Lucky brand to the Bay Area.
