The Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) is a member-supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing sustainable transportation solutions. Established in 1993, CTE collaborates with federal, state, and local governments, as well as vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators, to develop and implement clean, efficient, and sustainable transportation technologies.

CTE's mission is to improve the health of our climate and communities by bringing people together to develop and commercialize clean, efficient, and sustainable transportation technologies. Since its inception, CTE has managed a portfolio of over $1.2 billion in research, development, and demonstration projects.

The organization has assisted more than 200 U.S. companies in moving their technologies into the global energy and transportation mainstream.

Services Offered

• Technology Development: CTE works with vehicle manufacturers, component providers, and fleet operators to develop and deploy zero-emission vehicles and supporting infrastructure.
• Smart Deployment: Assists transit agencies and logistics organizations in implementing zero-emission technologies ensuring efficient integration into existing operations.
• Transition Planning: Provides guidance on planning and implementing successful transitions to zero-emission bus fleets, including strategies for range limitations, staff training plans, and funding plans.
• Advocacy: Engages industry leaders and policymakers to promote practical steps toward a zero-emission future, addressing barriers to deploying these technologies.
• Grant Writing as a Service: Helps organizations secure funding for zero-emission projects through grant writing.

Impact

CTE's impact includes deploying over 1,400 zero-emission vehicles, supporting more than 250 fleet vehicle owners, and developing over 80 transition plans.
