Metrolink, officially known as the Southern California Regional Rail Authority (SCRRA), is a commuter rail system serving the greater Los Angeles area and surrounding counties. Established in 1991, Metrolink commenced operations on October 26, 1992.
Its mission is to provide safe, efficient, dependable, and on-time transportation services that enhance the quality of life for Southern California residents.
Service Area and Network
Operating across Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties, as well as extending to Oceanside in San Diego County, Metrolink encompasses a network of eight lines and 69 stations.
The system covers approximately 545.6 miles of track, facilitating seamless connectivity between urban and suburban areas. It effectively reduces traffic congestion and offers a reliable alternative to driving.
Fleet and Operations
Metrolink's fleet includes 60 locomotives and 274 rail cars, featuring the "Sentinel Fleet" and the "Guardian Fleet," both designed with enhanced safety features.
The system operates at speeds up to 90 mph, ensuring timely arrivals and departures.
In October 2022, Metrolink introduced the Arrow service, a self-propelled trainset operating under a contract with the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA), expanding its reach and service offerings.
