About ProMedica
ProMedica Overview
ProMedica is a mission-driven, not-for-profit integrated healthcare organization headquartered in Toledo, Ohio. Established in 1986, it has grown into one of the leading health systems in the United States, serving communities across 30 states.
The organization offers a comprehensive range of services, including acute and ambulatory care, insurance plans with dental coverage, and post-acute and academic business lines. ProMedica employs over 70,000 individuals and operates 13 hospitals, supported by a network of more than 2,700 physicians and advanced practice providers.
In addition, it manages more than 450 assisted living facilities, skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers, memory care communities, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and hospice and home health care agencies.
Flagship Facility
ProMedica's flagship facility, ProMedica Toledo Hospital, is a 794-bed non-profit hospital and the largest acute care hospital in the Toledo metropolitan area. It functions as a Level I trauma center and employs over 4,800 healthcare professionals, including more than 1,000 specialty and primary care physicians.
The hospital's campus includes ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children's Hospital, a Level II pediatric trauma center with 151 beds, including a 72-bed newborn intensive care unit.
Recent Business Changes
In recent years, ProMedica has strategically divested from certain sectors to sharpen its focus on core healthcare operations. In November 2023, Gentiva Health Services acquired ProMedica's home health, palliative, and hospice business. Over 4,000 employees transitioned to Gentiva as part of this move.
ProMedica's hospice and home health locations have been rebranded to Heartland Hospice and Heartland Home Health, while its palliative care services operate under the Empatia Palliative Care brand, now part of Gentiva.
