About Project BarFly
Project BarFly LLC, formerly known as BarFly Ventures LLC, is a hospitality group headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Established in 2008, the company is renowned for its flagship brand, HopCat, a restaurant and bar chain celebrated for its extensive selection of craft beers and innovative menu offerings.
In addition to HopCat, Project BarFly also owns and operates Stella's Lounge and Grand Rapids Brewing Company, further enriching Michigan's vibrant dining and brewing scene.
HopCat
HopCat, the cornerstone of Project BarFly's portfolio, has grown to encompass 11 locations across Michigan, Nebraska, and Indiana. Each HopCat establishment is distinguished by its commitment to quality, offering a diverse array of craft beers, including house-made brews and selections from renowned breweries nationwide.
The menu features a variety of dishes, from gourmet burgers to inventive appetizers, all crafted with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The ambiance of each location is designed to provide a welcoming and energetic environment, making it a favored destination for both casual diners and craft beer enthusiasts.
Stella's Lounge
Stella's Lounge, another gem in Project BarFly's collection, is a Grand Rapids-based establishment known for its eclectic atmosphere and a menu that includes a variety of comfort foods, such as gourmet burgers and tater tots.
The venue also boasts an impressive selection of craft beers and a unique arcade game collection, offering patrons a nostalgic yet contemporary dining experience.
Grand Rapids Brewing Company
Grand Rapids Brewing Company, the third brand under Project BarFly, is a historic brewery that has been revitalized to offer a range of house-made beers alongside a full-service restaurant menu.
The establishment pays homage to its roots while embracing modern brewing techniques, providing a unique experience for both history buffs and beer aficionados.
Company History and Growth
In 2020, Project BarFly underwent significant changes when it emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company's assets were acquired by Congruent Investment Partners and Main Street Capital, leading to the formation of the new operating entity, Project BarFly LLC.
This transition marked a renewed focus on stabilizing operations and returning to growth. Under new ownership, the company has successfully reopened existing locations and is exploring opportunities for expansion.
For example, in 2023, a new HopCat location opened in Livonia, Michigan, signaling the brand's cautious yet optimistic growth strategy post-bankruptcy.
Commitment to Sustainability
Project BarFly's commitment to sustainability is evident in its operations, with efforts to recycle and compost up to 90 percent of the waste generated across its establishments.
This dedication to environmental responsibility reflects the company's broader mission to create welcoming spaces that support teams, communities, and the environment.
