Founded in 1947 by Roy and Estelle Kelley, the company began with a single hotel in Hawaii. Over the decades, Outrigger expanded its portfolio to include various properties such as Outrigger® Resorts, OHANA Hotels by Outrigger®, Hawaii Vacation Condos by Outrigger®, and Kapalua Villas Maui.

In 2016, Outrigger sold its four Australian hotels to the Mantra Group.
