JGS Lifecare

JGS Lifecare, formerly known as Jewish Geriatric Services, is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being of individuals and families. Established in 1912 by 13 Jewish women, the organization began as the Daughters of Zion Home for the Aged in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Over the past century, JGS Lifecare has evolved into a comprehensive provider of health, education, and social services, guided by Jewish traditions and values.

The organization's mission is to improve the quality of life for its community members by offering a wide range of services, including:

• Hospice and palliative care
• Adult day health care

• Specialized Alzheimer's care

In 2015, JGS Lifecare underwent a rebranding initiative, adopting its current name and logo to better reflect its expanded services and commitment to serving individuals of all faiths and backgrounds.

A significant development in the organization's innovative care is the Sosin Center for Rehabilitation, which opened in December 2016. This facility is the first Green House® certified center in western Massachusetts, offering a personalized model of care within a real home setting.

The Green House model features self-contained homes for up to 12 elders, designed to provide a personalized model of care within a real home setting. Each home includes ample natural light, a central living area, an open kitchen, and a dining room, fostering a homelike environment that enhances the dignity and quality of life for residents.

In 2018, JGS Lifecare became a founding member of Legacy Lifecare, a non-profit management resources collaborative. This partnership supports small-to-mid-sized organizations with infrastructure, enabling them to preserve their missions while gaining access to sophisticated managerial services and collaboration opportunities.
