Hello Neighbor

Hello Neighbor is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, dedicated to supporting recently resettled refugee and immigrant families. Since its founding in 2017 by Sloane Davidson, the organization has assisted over 3,500 individuals from more than 59 countries, helping them integrate into their new communities with confidence and dignity.

The organization's mission is to empower refugees and immigrants by connecting them with essential resources and a supportive community. They provide culturally sensitive guidance in areas such as housing, employment, education, and healthcare.

This ensures that each individual's journey to belonging is filled with respect and support.

Core Programs

One of Hello Neighbor's core programs is the Mentorship Program, which pairs local volunteers with newly arrived families to foster connections and provide guidance.

Since its inception, over 150 refugee families from more than 26 countries have been matched with caring neighbors, engaging in activities like shared meals, cultural exchanges, and community events.

Additional programs include:

• Study Buddy: Personalized, online tutoring for refugee and immigrant youth in grades 6-12, helping with education system navigation and relationship building.
• Smart Start: Intensive case management supporting pregnant immigrants and refugees through pregnancy and early motherhood.
• Employment Services: Job orientation, resume and interview preparation, job referrals, job clubs, and office hours to promote economic empowerment and self-sufficiency.
• Legal Services: Immigration assistance to maintain lawful nonimmigrant status, secure permanent legal status, and support family reunification overseas.

National Coalition

Hello Neighbor operates a national coalition called the Hello Neighbor Network. This network supports grassroots organizations that aid refugees and immigrants across the U.S.

It provides tools and resources to create structural change and enhance support capacity nationwide.
