About Disability Allies
Disability Allies is a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering inclusivity and social connections between young adults with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Founded over five years ago by an individual diagnosed with IDD, the organization recognized the need to build social connections and provide support for individuals with disabilities.
The organization's Inclusion Center offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip adults with special needs (aged 18 and over) with skills necessary for gainful employment. This curriculum includes training in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), Culinary Arts, Life Skills, and fitness and recreation classes.
By providing these programs, Disability Allies aims to promote independence and a sense of belonging for all participants.
Programs and Services
In addition to its educational programs, Disability Allies hosts scheduled social events where young adults with and without IDD can meet and connect.
These events are open to anyone who has a disability, knows someone with a disability, or is supportive of people with disabilities.
By pairing each individual with a mentor, the organization helps participants improve their social skills and ensures everyone interacts with each other.
Leadership and Staff
The senior leadership team at Disability Allies boasts over 54 combined years of experience in the field.
Along with onsite staff, the organization employs an additional 200 family members who care for their loved ones in their own homes.
This extensive experience underscores the organization's dedication to promoting inclusivity and social connections.
