Diocese of B.R. Child Nutrition Program

The Diocese of Baton Rouge Child Nutrition Program (CNP) is dedicated to providing nutritious and delicious meals to students within the Diocese of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Established in 1962, the program has a longstanding commitment to supporting the health and well-being of students. It offers well-balanced meals that adhere to federal and state nutrition standards.

Mission and Vision

The CNP's mission is to provide high-quality, nutritious meals to students while meeting the standards set by the USDA and the State of Louisiana. Their vision focuses on guiding children toward fitness and well-being by fostering healthy eating habits and promoting nutritious food choices.

Meal Programs and Services

The program offers a variety of meal services, including breakfast, lunch, and afterschool snacks, ensuring students have access to wholesome meals throughout the day. Menus are carefully planned to include options that appeal to students while meeting strict nutritional guidelines.

For the 2024-2025 school year, the CNP introduced a 'Free' Afterschool Meal (Super Snack) at all participating schools.

In addition to regular meal services, the CNP provides free summer meals to children aged 18 and under. These are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at various drive-through church sites within the diocese during the summer months.

Each child receives a package containing:

• Seven breakfasts
• Seven lunches
• One gallon of milk

Purchasing and Quality Assurance

The CNP's purchasing department is responsible for procuring quality food and supply items at the best value possible for the children of the Baton Rouge Diocese School System.

They strive to plan a variety of nutritious, appetizing, and affordable meals that meet all state and federal guidelines.

The program collaborates with the USDA to distribute high-quality food items including:
