Cherriots, officially known as the Salem Area Mass Transit District, is a public transit agency serving the Salem and Keizer areas in Oregon, United States. Established in 1979, Cherriots provides a comprehensive range of transportation services designed to meet the diverse needs of the community.
Services Offered
- Cherriots Local: Operates 20 bus routes throughout Salem and Keizer, ensuring safe, friendly, and reliable transportation for residents and visitors. Buses run seven days a week, with frequencies ranging from 15 to 60 minutes. All buses are ADA-accessible and have front-load bike racks that hold two bicycles.
- Cherriots Regional: Offers express bus services connecting Salem and Keizer to surrounding communities in Marion and Polk counties. Key cities served include Wilsonville, Woodburn, Dallas, and Monmouth. The 1X Wilsonville/Salem Express route is jointly operated with SMART (South Metro Area Regional Transit).
- Cherriots LIFT: Provides door-to-door paratransit service for individuals with qualifying disabilities within a three-quarter-mile radius of Cherriots Local routes, ensuring access to essential services and opportunities.
- Cherriots Shop and Ride: A dial-a-ride service designed for seniors and people with disabilities, offering flexible scheduling for shopping, medical appointments, and other needs.

- Downtown Transit Center: Located at 555 Court St. NE, Salem, OR, it is the main hub for Local and Regional routes. Amenities include restrooms, public Wi-Fi, and nearby dining options.
- Keizer Transit Center: Located at 5860 Keizer Station Blvd. NE, Keizer, OR, offering restrooms, public Wi-Fi, bicycle repair stations, and a Park and Ride area with electric vehicle charging stations.
- West Salem Transit Center: Located at 1135 Cornucopia St. NW, Salem, OR, this center provides bicycle racks and is close to the West Salem Public Library.
Fleet and Operations
Cherriots maintains a fleet of 64 buses for regular services, 46 LIFT vehicles, and 12 Regional buses. The buses use clean diesel or compressed natural gas, reflecting a commitment to environmental sustainability. The largest buses have a capacity of 38 seated and 20 standing passengers.
