About Cardiovascular Institute of the South
Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is a leading provider of comprehensive cardiovascular care, dedicated to preventing, detecting, and treating cardiovascular and peripheral vascular diseases.
Established in 1983 by Dr. Craig Walker in Houma, Louisiana, CIS has grown to become a world-renowned practice with over 1,150 team members and 65 physicians across 21 locations in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Services Provided
CIS offers a full spectrum of cardiovascular services, including prevention, diagnostics, and treatment. Their services encompass leg and vein treatments, outpatient procedures, 24/7 virtual care, and participation in research trials.
The institute operates office-based catheterization labs, an ambulatory surgery center (ASC), and a 24/7 virtual care center, providing patients with continuous access to care.
Innovative Treatments
In addition to traditional cardiovascular services, CIS has pioneered several innovative treatments.
- First in the Gulf South to use the FDA-approved Esprit™ BTK Everolimus Eluting Resorbable Scaffold System for treating chronic limb-threatening ischemia in the lower legs.
- Introduced the Aperta NSE™ PTA Balloon to treat vascular disease in the legs.
- First in Louisiana to use the Evolut™ FX+ transcatheter aortic valve replacement system, offering minimally invasive alternatives to open-heart surgery.
Commitment to Accessibility
CIS is committed to making advanced cardiovascular care accessible, especially to rural communities.
They have expanded their reach by opening clinics in Breaux Bridge, Crowley, Jennings, New Iberia, and Opelousas, in addition to their original locations in Houma, Thibodaux, and Morgan City.
The Lafayette area hosts three CIS locations, including the first and only Virtual Care Center, providing 24/7 access to care, telecardiology services, Cardio@Home programs, and cardiac rhythm management.
Partnership and Expansion
In 2023, CIS partnered with Lee Equity Partners to form Cardiovascular Logistics, a national platform aimed at transforming cardiovascular care delivery.
This partnership has enabled CIS to expand its services and collaborate with other leading cardiovascular practices across the country, enhancing patient care and access to innovative treatments.
