Company History

The journey began in 1979 when Jeff Engler recognized a market gap for Mexican cuisine and opened Los Primos, a quick-service Mexican restaurant. By 1984, Los Primos expanded to 19 locations in five states.

In 1985, the Engler brothers approached Taco Bell to become franchise partners in the Twin Cities. Although they lacked initial financial backing, they persevered and secured capital in 1996 to acquire 63 Taco Bell restaurants, officially forming Border Foods.
