Best Friends Animal Society

Best Friends Animal Society is a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. Founded in 1991, the organization operates the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals in Kanab, Utah. It also has a network of animal welfare partners across the country.

Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah

The organization's flagship facility, the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, spans 3,700 acres in Angel Canyon near Kanab, Utah. This sanctuary provides a permanent home for approximately 1,500 animals, including dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, horses, pigs, and other animals.

Each species has its own dedicated area such as Dogtown for dogs and Cat World for cats, where animals receive care, rehabilitation, and the opportunity to find loving homes.

Programs and Initiatives

In addition to the sanctuary, Best Friends Animal Society operates several lifesaving centers and programs across the United States. These include:

• No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA), collaborating with local shelters and rescue groups to increase adoption rates and reduce euthanasia in Los Angeles.
• No-Kill Utah (NKUT) Coalition, bringing together shelters and rescue groups to save the lives of homeless pets in Utah.
