Austin Humane Society

The Austin Humane Society (AHS), established in 1952, is Austin's longest-standing no-kill shelter dedicated to transforming the lives of animals and the people who love them.

Located at 124 W. Anderson Lane, Austin, TX 78752, AHS serves over 11,000 animals annually through a variety of life-saving programs.

Adoption Program

AHS is committed to finding loving homes for animals in need. Each animal receives comprehensive care, including spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, microchipping, and behavioral support.

The adoption process ensures a good match between pets and families, with dedicated staff available to assist potential adopters.

Community Cat Program

To address the overpopulation of feral cats, AHS offers a program providing free and reduced-cost spay/neuter surgeries, vaccinations, and microchipping.

Since 2007, the program has served over 71,000 cats, stabilizing the free-roaming cat population and reducing the number of kittens born each year.

Foster Care

AHS operates a foster care program in conjunction with adoption services. Volunteer foster families care for animals that are too young, recovering from surgery, or not thriving in the shelter environment.

Disaster Response

As the City of Austin's official disaster response partner, AHS coordinates efforts during natural and human-made crises.

The organization responded to various emergencies, providing shelter and medical care to animals affected by disasters. In 2020, AHS served 281 animals during disaster response.

Humane Education

AHS offers educational programs like Humane Heroes, a STEM-based initiative that teaches children about animals and responsible pet ownership.

Community Engagement

AHS hosts numerous community events annually, including the Rags to Wags Gala and the Puppy Bowl, to raise awareness and support for animal welfare.
