Assets, Inc.

Assets, Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Anchorage, Alaska, dedicated to enhancing the independence and self-worth of individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illnesses. Established in 1980, the organization has been a cornerstone in providing essential services that empower these individuals to live and work within their communities.

Mission and Services

The mission of Assets, Inc. is to consistently improve the employment opportunities, home environments, and community connections of individuals who require substantial supports. By doing so, they aim to enhance the independence and self-worth of these individuals, benefiting both the individuals and the communities they are part of.

Over the past four decades, Assets, Inc. has developed a comprehensive suite of services to support its mission:

• Contract Services: The organization creates employment opportunities and provides job training to individuals with disabilities. This includes operating a print shop and bindery, as well as offering janitorial services at the Anchorage Airport. These contracts not only provide employment but also reinvest in the local community.
• Community Services: Assets, Inc. supports individuals with disabilities to live and work as independently as possible. This includes supported living services, which offer skill building, coaching, and resource coordination to assist individuals in living in their own homes.
• Employer Services: The organization partners with local businesses to assist individuals with disabilities in obtaining and retaining employment. Currently, Assets, Inc. collaborates with over 40 local employers to ensure job satisfaction for both employees and employers.

History and Impact

Founded by determined parents and friends of individuals with disabilities, Assets, Inc. has grown significantly since its inception. In 1980, the organization employed 80 adults with disabilities through its print shop and bindery.

Today, it is the 64th largest private employer in Alaska, with a workforce of over 270 employees, 41.97% of whom are individuals with disabilities. This diverse workforce contributes significantly to the local economy and community.

The office operates Monday through Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.
