Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school
  • four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic and electrical devices and equipment
  • ability to operate a mechanical boom truck
  • knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and practices
  • ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams
  • capability to perform preventive maintenance
  • ability to respond to service requests and emergencies
  • willingness to work full-time
  • comply with city regulations and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • Equivalent to graduation from high school
  • four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic and electrical devices and equipment
  • knowledge of electrical and electronic theory and practices including analog and digital solid state devices
  • ability to operate and maintain a variety of hand, power and shop tools and equipment used in electrical maintenance work
  • ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematic diagrams of circuitry
  • ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees and the public
  • an associate's degree in electronics or a closely related field may be substituted for two years of experience

Job Duties

  • Repairs or replaces malfunctioning safety lighting fixtures and traffic signal systems in city streets and residential areas
  • replaces damaged lights and poles
  • makes necessary concrete repairs
  • repairs and calibrates complex electronic control devices
  • uses mechanical boom truck to make aerial repairs and to replace street lights and other overhead electrical fixtures
  • performs intersection phase adjustments, timing adjustments, and coordinates adjustments
  • determines nature of malfunction of circuits and repairs or replaces circuits
  • installs loops and magnetometer detectors
  • performs preventive maintenance
  • inspects traffic control and lighting systems installed by contractors to ensure conformity with plans, specifications, and electrical codes
  • develops rough estimates of labor, materials and equipment required to perform work
  • performs repairs on radio systems and sound systems
  • investigates service requests and complaints made by the public
  • performs follow-up on citizen requests for service
  • answers emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action
  • reviews plans and blueprints of proposed signal and street lighting construction to ensure compliance with city rules, policies, and regulations
  • assists in developing and implementing maintenance procedures
