Job Requirements

- Dental Assistant Certification or sterile processing certification
- BLS certification
- Ability to use dental technology and perform infection control procedures

Job Duties
- Prepares, cleans, organizes, and closes the sterilization room and lab for daily functions
- Maintains equipment, instruments, handpieces, burs and armentarium by proper care, cleaning, and sterilization according to OSHA standards and manufacturer's instructions
- Prepares all instrument packs, handpieces, burs, etc. and distributes to operatories
- Consults patient schedule to ensure proper availability of instruments in operatories
- Operates and maintains sterilizers, keeping records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed
- Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment
- Assists with cleaning of rooms between cases and terminal cleaning
- Maintains laundry daily including towels, smocks, uniforms, etc.
- Contributes to VDSC efficiency
- Communicates effectively with clinical staff and across departments as needed
- Ensures necessary equipment is available by maintaining surgical inventory
- Contributes to fluctuating staffing needs by being flexible in assignments and schedules
- Assists in preparing operatories when requested
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with OSHA infection control policies
- Maintains patient confidentiality and professionalism
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications
