Job Requirements

  • No experience or training required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid TWIC or ability to obtain TWIC
  • Ability to perform manual labor including lifting 30 pounds or more
  • Ability to work in outdoor and waterfront environments
  • Ability to work shift work, call outs, and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • No prior experience or training required
  • Ability to perform manual physical labor including standing, stooping, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, climbing, and lifting 30 pounds or more
  • Capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work around waterfront areas
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Preferred ASE certification
  • Preferred Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
  • Experience with diesel engine equipment is advantageous

Job Duties

  • Inspect railroad tracks
  • Repair and set railroad switches
  • Clean, lubricate, and adjust railroad switches
  • Replace railroad crossties
  • Raise, tamp, and align railroad tracks
  • Operate equipment for track maintenance and grass cutting
  • Make minor equipment repairs
  • Repair and maintain heavy mobile equipment and fleet vehicles including electrical, drivetrain, engines, hydraulics, and computer-controlled systems
  • Tire replacement
  • Cutting and welding
  • Mower and weed eater maintenance
  • Diagnose malfunctioning electrical systems and equipment
  • Identify hazards, defects, and needed electrical repairs
  • Install, repair and maintain motors, transformers, starters, lights, circuits and wiring
  • Perform basic mechanical repairs outside electrical trade
  • Read blueprints and ladder logic
  • Operate equipment, tools and machinery
  • Perform routine preventative mechanical maintenance
  • Provide maintenance on shift work, call outs and weekends
  • Maintain bearings, pumps, conveyors, gearboxes
  • Perform shaft and drive component alignment
  • Fabrication and welding
  • Perform visual equipment inspections
  • Diagnose mechanical problems
  • Read and understand repair manuals
  • Clean, repair, and maintain office buildings, properties, docks, railroads, transit sheds, grounds and appliances
  • Operate tractors
  • Cut grass, trim, weed, and spray herbicides
  • Perform general building and grounds upkeep tasks such as shoveling, carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrical, and railroad work
