Job Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of company orientation and food safety and sanitation training upon hire
  • ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
  • ability to lift and manage weights as required by department tasks
  • ability to work with customers attentively
  • capability to perform department-specific tasks
  • willingness to comply with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Provide superior customer service
  • take orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • answer customer questions regarding products and assist with selections
  • prepare, package, and merchandise fresh product effectively
  • slice, package, label, rotate, and cull products for poor quality
  • assist in technical areas such as basic set-up and clean-up processes
  • use suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • clean and sanitize display cases
  • operate and maintain equipment properly
  • comply with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • comply with department and store operating procedures
  • record production and shrink to aid in bakery production planning
  • assist in baking, frying, and decorating in the bakery
  • take care of deli service counter customers
  • use ordering system applications and Fresh Production Planner
  • perform inventory management processes
  • ensure catering orders are prepared and ready for pickup
  • perform sanitation and maintenance tasks for deli slicers
  • serve and package prepared foods at customers' request
  • educate customers on preparation and reheating instructions
  • prepackage condiments for prepared food items
  • cut, slice, dice, and chop food in preparation for chefs
