Job Requirements

- Six months of experience as a package handler with FedEx Ground preferred
- Ability to lift and carry between 10 and 50 pounds
- Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures
- Ability to work in an environment with loud noise
- Ability to work multiple shifts if required
- Ability to follow safety protocols
- Valid driver’s license required for switcher roles
- Able to maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file
- Travel should not be required
Job Qualifications
- Ability to train multiple peer package handlers simultaneously
- Ability to understand and follow instruction regarding work duties and safety methods
- Ability to discern numbers and information to sort packages correctly
- Ability to use basic tools and equipment such as skate wheel rollers, dock carts, hand-held scanners, chutes and unloading devices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
- Package handlers operating switching equipment must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) file
Job Duties
- Train new package handlers in unloading, loading, palletizing, carrying, smalls handling, SWAK, and non-conveyable package handling techniques
- Provide training to package handlers needing additional instruction on handling techniques
- Provide feedback on proper package handling methods
- Reinforce dock safety standards among peer package handlers
- Demonstrate all necessary processes and procedures by example
- Update managers on sort conditions to aid operational efficiency decisions
- Assist in implementing new package handling procedures and techniques
- Regularly load, unload, palletize, lift, carry, push, and pull packages while training other package handlers
- Utilize hand-to-surface methods for all package handling
- Load and unload packages onto or from delivery vehicles, trailers, pallets, conveyor carts, and load gratings
- Lift, carry, push, and pull packages continuously and repetitively for approximately 3-5 hours per shift
- Determine appropriate conveyor system by scanning packages, reading labels and charts, verifying numbers, and sorting packages accordingly
- Perform other duties as assigned
