Job Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Current Food Handler's Permit
  • State sanitation certificate
  • 3-4 years of related and advanced food service and cooking experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read and follow recipes unsupervised
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand for extended periods up to 8 hours
  • Ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and perform physical tasks required by the job
  • Flexibility to work some holidays and varied hours
  • Dependability and attention to detail
  • Ability to work with limited direct supervision
  • Commitment to food safety and sanitation standards

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Current Food Handler's Permit
  • Training in Servsafe is beneficial
  • State sanitation certificate
  • 3-4 years of related and advanced food service and cooking experience desired
  • Experience with basic operation of kitchen equipment preferred
  • Intermediate to advanced knife skills
  • Extensive working knowledge of kitchen environment and food preparation
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and follow recipes unsupervised
  • Basic computer skills
  • Patience and compassion towards senior adults
  • Ability to work within policy and procedures with limited supervision
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to maintain a neat, orderly work area
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, preparation, and serving principles
  • Ability to interact positively with residents, staff, families, and vendors

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook to order foods requiring short to mid-level preparation time
  • Prepare food and serve customers at an a la carte or grill station
  • Follow standardized recipes and product directions for seasoning, cooking, tasting, and serving various food items
  • Operate kitchen equipment to measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, shred, trim, and prepare ingredients
  • Taste products, estimate food requirements, check production, and keep records for planning and requisitioning supplies and equipment
  • Attend training on food safety, allergy, and foodborne illness, and apply principles of food safety and sanitation
  • Receive inventory, move and lift foodstuffs, and prepare meals for customers requiring special diets
