Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to read, write, and follow written and oral instructions
- Engineering college background or civil technology at a technical college desirable
- Must have own means of transportation
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under adverse weather conditions and near moving traffic
- Ability to meet and deal with the public in a friendly and professional manner
- Must wear prescribed clothing and personal protective safety equipment
- Offers of employment contingent upon passing criminal history and fingerprint background check
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Some college-level coursework in traffic or transportation engineering or civil technology preferred
- Previous experience in traffic operations or field data collection preferred
- Ability to understand and follow basic instructions
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to work near moving traffic safely
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Valid driver’s license
Job Duties
- Collects and documents traffic data using road counters, digital count boards, handheld radar units and manual observations
- Ensures proper data entry and storage
- Prepares traffic safety and operations reports including sight distance observations, crash history diagrams, speed studies, signal operations studies, and traffic volume reports
- Assists other staff with inspection and documentation of temporary work zone traffic control
- Assists other staff with minor sign maintenance and inspection of roadway striping operations
- Assists Traffic Signal Technician on minor traffic signal maintenance operations
- Performs other related duties as assigned
