Job Description

Norman Regional Health System, in partnership with Oceans Healthcare, is committed to expanding access to behavioral health services in south central Oklahoma through the development of a new, state-of-the-art behavioral hospital scheduled to open in Summer 2024. This new facility, the Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village, encompasses a 48-bed capacity, effectively more than doubling the current inpatient services for adult and senior behavioral health patients offered by Norman Regional Health System. Job Requirements

  • Completion of culinary school
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a cook in a nursing home or hospital setting preferred
  • Must be able to read and write
  • Must be able to follow recipes
  • Must be able to use measurements
  • Basic experience in cooking
  • Must understand the fundamentals of therapeutic diets
  • Should be proficient in performing duties within a three-month time frame
  • Must be able to plan, organize, and meet servicing deadlines
  • Duties are diversified and semi-repetitive
  • Methods and procedures are standardized
  • Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program
  • Must be able to cope mentally and physically in a high paced and stressful atmosphere
  • Work requires spending approximately 90 percent or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes
  • Must be able to handle heavy lifting and physical exertion
  • Must be able to work in kitchen with temperatures above 90 degrees at times
  • Must be able to handle exposure to a variety of chemicals

Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Plan daily cooking schedule to meet deadlines and follow standardized recipes
  • Direct the work of assistants and aides in a professional manner
  • Prepare and serve meals per menus, physician orders, resident preferences, and therapeutic diet spreadsheet
  • Assure food is served at proper temperatures and record these temperatures
  • Make proper food substitutions within food groups as directed
  • Serve food on tray line at mealtime
  • Clean, sanitize, and cover kitchen equipment and follow listed cleaning assignments
  • Prepare for the following day's menu
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
