Job Requirements

  • Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks
  • Ability to squat, kneel, and crawl for extended periods
  • Ability to crawl under 18-inch clearance
  • Willingness and ability to travel 3-4 months at a time
  • Must adhere to personal protective equipment requirements
  • Must be trained annually in Road Worker Safety

Job Qualifications

  • Valid CDL Class A or B with air brake endorsement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks such as changing a tire and replacing a battery
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 85 lbs and occasionally assist with objects over 100 lbs
  • Ability to squat, kneel, and crawl under 18-inch clearance
  • Minimum of 2 years commercial driving experience preferred
  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Job Duties

  • Operate test vehicle/detector car on and off railroad tracks and in all road conditions
  • Perform vehicle inspections and equipment set-up
  • Record and interpret data on computer monitors
  • Service, maintain, and repair vehicle and detector carriage, including crawling under vehicle with restricted clearance
  • Climb steps and ladders repeatedly to enter and exit vehicle
  • Conduct ground examination of rails using hand test units
  • Communicate clearly with crew members, pilot, and via radio and intercom
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Assist with maintaining equipment and inventory to reduce downtime
  • Exercise diplomacy with railroad personnel and report complaints
