Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or equivalent
  • One year of relevant civil engineering experience
  • Valid California Class C driver's license
  • Ability to apply traffic engineering principles
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Must pass written test and appraisal interview
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to undergo background check and fingerprinting

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related field
  • One year of work experience in civil engineering
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering principles and state regulations
  • Ability to prepare traffic studies and improvement project plans
  • Experience with traffic control design and review
  • Strong communication skills for public interaction
  • Familiarity with traffic data collection and analysis
  • Valid California Class C driver's license
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) registration preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist division staff in applying traffic engineering principles and state regulations to improve roadway safety and mobility
  • Assist in preparation of traffic engineering studies including volume counts, speed surveys, and collision analyses
  • Prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates for traffic and roadway improvement projects
  • Support design and review of traffic control plans, signing and striping layouts, and temporary traffic management plans
  • Respond to public inquiries and service requests related to traffic operations and parking
  • Review development and building permit applications for traffic and transportation impacts
  • Perform field inspections to verify traffic conditions and support data collection
  • Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and other public agencies on projects
  • Maintain and update traffic data inventories
  • Prepare and update traffic signal timing sheets and coordination plans
